Oscar Arias Sr., 49, and Oscar Arias Jr., 23, both of 107 3rd St., Brentwood, were arrested on Tuesday, June 18, and charged with animal cruelty for failure to provide proper sustenance, said the SPCA.

The horrid situation was uncovered after the SPCA was contacted by the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department while serving an eviction notice. While at the home, the police found the 18 Shih Tzu / Poodle mixes living in deplorable conditions, in feces and urine, with no access to water, the SPCA said.

The dogs were severely matted, urine soaked and had feces stuck in the matting.

The 10 females and 8 male dogs, all under the age of 6, were removed from the home and transported to the Islip Animal Shelter for treatment.

Both men are scheduled to appear in First District Court on August 21.

"Special thanks to the Sheriff's Department and also Islip Town Animal Control Officers for their dedication and hard work in removing all of the animals safely," the SPCA said.
